on traveling with pets

Today we are flying to Dayton with the puppy!  Do you know how expensive it is to bring an 8 lb of wiggling rottenness with you domestically?  It really depends on the airline.  I will list the ones I normally travel with.

Airtran: $75 one-way (price will increase to $95 starting 2014)* This is actually the cheapest one, but also the one that requires the smallest sized carrier. The pet carrier is also considered as one hand carry, and you are only allowed two.

Delta: $125 one-way** You have to pay this at the check-in counter (even if the pet is a hand carry).  THe pet carrier also counts as one hand carry item.

United/Continental:  $125 one-way*** Pet carrier does not count towards the one bag, one personal bag policy.  There are only four pets per economy flight allowed.  So make sure to reserve early.

Southwest: $75 one-way (price will increase to $95 starting 2014)**** Same as most of the airlines, they consider a pet carrier a personal/hand carry item.  I have never actually traveled with Southwest Airlines cos the flight I need doesn’t let you travel with pets.
